Gig Harbor, WA Couples Therapy and Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy & Intimate Relationship
Therapy for Gig Harbor, WA

I can be found just across the Narrows Bridge from Tacoma, in the picturesque community of Gig Harbor, right along Puget Sound.

Pierce County is the unceded territory of the Coast Salish people.

Gig Harbor is the ancestral home of the Swift Water People, a band of the Puyallup Indian tribe who called the harbor, Twa-wal-kut. People from the Nisqually and Squaxin Island tribes also lived in the area.

Gig Harbor’s landscape is dominated by beauty. Mount Tahoma (meaning, “mouth of waters”) watches over the harbor and can be seen in all its glory on a sunny day.

The history of this community is one of reverence for the saltwater, the rivers, salmon, wildlife, the mountains, and the healing wisdom of nature.

Ryan Therapy Services highly values the healing power of nature and the history of the Gig Harbor community and the traditions of the people who first inhabited and settled on this beautiful land.

To learn more about the history of the indigenous people in Gig Harbor, you can visit the Harbor History Museum website.

Who Am I as a Therapist practicing in the heart of this community:

I am not a native Pacific Northwesterner; I’m from New Jersey. But this community has been my home for over 20 years and I cannot imagine living anywhere else in the world.

This is what I believe I can offer my community through my therapy practice:

  • A place for clients to heal and create sexual, relational, and emotional well-being and health.
  • A place to receive accurate, science-based information about human sexuality.
  • A place to recover and take the shame and pain out of sex.
  • A place for clients to claim and honor their erotic and sexual truths. This includes all humans: straight and LGBTQIA2S+, monogamous, traditional couples, thruples, consensually nonmonogamous, and polyamorous relationships.
  • A place for clients to learn how to live their fullest, most loving expression of their authenticity.
  • A place for clients to discover, reclaim, return to, and remember their authentic soul, the hidden part within them that allows them to celebrate the beautiful and unique way they love and express their sexual and erotic signature.

Who I Am Professionally:

My Credentials:

I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist.
Certified Sex Therapists are psychotherapists who, in addition to being skilled in the process of therapy, have also received extensive training in sexuality, sexual health, and sexual challenges. You can learn more at the American Association of Sexuality, Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
I received my Masterʼs Degree from Pacific Lutheran University Marriage and Family Therapy program in 1998. I have been practicing therapy ever since. I cannot imagine having a different career because being a therapist is “in my bones”.

Good psychotherapy is science-based. But great psychotherapy is an artistic endeavor and a creative invitation for all humans to reconnect to their own erotic energy and soulful inspiration.

My clinical specialties in sex therapy and intimate relationship therapy reflect the belief that when we heal our intimate relationships, including the one we have with ourselves, we are positively and lovingly contributing to healing the collective and the greater good.

I focus on addressing a variety of intimacy and sexual challenges faced by humans of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, abilities, gender identities, and relationship structures.

I work with individuals and those within monogamous and ethically non-monogamous relationships.

I offer the following:

I am now proudly serving clients in Pierce and Kitsap counties.

Places to Explore in the Community:

In addition to the Harbor History Museum, there are many organizations and places to explore in the harbor.

Gig Harbor Boatshop, the “community boatyard”
Dedicated to preserving local, working waterfront traditions, the boat shop has been part of the community since 1946. Founded by Ed Hoppen and Don Harder, it was originally known as Eddon Boat Company. Today the boat shop is dedicated to preserving local, working waterfront traditions.

You can rent a classic boat in the summer months, participate in hands-on activities for youth and adults, volunteer in many of the year-round activities, or just visit and explore the history embedded in this community gem.

Harbor Wildwatch
An environmental education organization dedicated to inspiring stewardship for Puget Sound and the greater Salish Sea. Check out their educational programs!

Gig Harbor Canoe and Kayak Racing Team
A place for kids to learn the skills and pleasure of canoeing and kayaking.

Maitri Movement. Restoring Wellness to the World One Body & Soul at a Time

Hungry or Thirsty Yet? Visit the following Gig Harbor establishments:

Millville Pizza for delicious wood-fired pizza

Morso’s Bistro, Wine and Market Bar is a local favorite with an outstanding view of the harbor.

7 Seas Brewing Company, also with an outstanding view of the harbor and great beer!

The Tides Tavern. A mainstay in Gig Harbor since the early 1900’s. Still one of the most popular places to gather
in the harbor, with amazing views, food and libations!

What Clients Have to Say

I think the structure of our sessions make me feel valuable. It's the conversation
and not the "what I am hearing you say..." approach. You allow me to share what is
happening in my life, how I am feeling and thinking and from there we zero in on
important things and then explore what those "things" mean, where they may
come from and how I can better address them.
